First, a few facts about Sinclair/St. Clair Research
Sinclair/St. Clair Research is a not-for-profit group of individuals who are
interested in furthering our study of genealogy
by making use of DNA testing. This is a global project to test members of the
Clan Sinclair everywhere.
The project is run by Steve St. Clair of New Jersey, Stan St. Clair of
Tennessee and Iain Laird in the UK.
This project has been created and run with a great deal of effort as a result
of our interest in the Clan. It is
entirely voluntary for all managers of the project. Nobody involved makes any
money out of this.
The US organisers have invested over USD 1,200 out of their own pockets to do
this research. They have done so and we support them because we
are all proud members of Clan Sinclair and want to further the goals of the
clan. We are not affiliated in any business sense with Family Tree DNA. We use
them as our testing lab. They give our members a discounted rate for testing
with them. After careful consideration of several labs, they proved to be the
most thorough to us. And consistency of testing method is critical to the
success of any DNA project. Of the money you pay Family Tree DNA, Sinclair/St.
Clair Research gets nothing.
We do not charge any money of any member of this project. Nobody pays us to
participate. That is the definition of a not-for-profit. Each of us holds down
a full-time job and we do it in our spare time.
You do, however pay Family Tree DNA to test your mouth scraping kit and
results. They are a laboratory based in Houston Texas. The are a for-profit
company. Their costs are fair and compare favourably with other testing labs.
